Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Odisha’s dairy cooperative, OMFED, will increase the milk procurement price paid to farmers by Rs 2 per litre from September 11, providing additional financial support to dairy farmers facing rising production and transportation costs.
The decision comes amid a significant increase in the cost of dairy production, particularly cattle feed, fodder and other essential inputs.
Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik said the decision was taken after assessing the rising cost of milk production and the financial pressure being faced by dairy farmers.
The revised procurement price will come into effect from September 11.
According to the government, rising global oil prices have further pushed up production and transportation expenses across the agricultural and livestock sectors, adding to the financial burden on dairy farmers.
Taking into account the increased cost of milk production, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has decided to raise the procurement price by Rs 2 per litre. The move is aimed at ensuring better returns for farmers supplying milk to the cooperative.
The increase is expected to provide some relief to dairy farmers while strengthening Odisha’s dairy sector by improving returns from milk production.
