OMC Mines Awarded for Excellence in Sustainable Practices
The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has received national recognition for its commitment to sustainable and responsible mining. Two of its key sites, the Daitari Iron Ore Mines and the Kodingamali Bauxite Mines, have been honored with the prestigious "5 Star Rating" award for the fiscal year 2023–24.
The awards were presented by the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Sri G. Kishan Reddy, at a ceremony in Jaipur on July 7, 2025. This event was part of the Indian Bureau of Mines' (IBM) annual recognition program.
A Mark of Excellence
The 5-Star rating is the highest honor conferred by the Ministry of Mines. It recognizes mining operations that excel across several key areas. The Daitari and Kodingamali mines were singled out for their systematic mine planning and effective environmental safeguards. They were also praised for their progressive mining practices and strong community engagement initiatives.
These mines have successfully adopted international best practices to minimize their ecological footprint. At the same time, they have made significant contributions to the development of surrounding communities through various welfare programs.
