Smriti Mandhana secures her first series win as captain.

India Women comfortably defeated Zimbabwe by nine wickets in Raipur on Sunday to seal the T20I series. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana chased down a modest target of 103 with 67 balls to spare. Mandhana secured her first series victory as full-time captain with this dominant performance. This resounding win builds on recent bilateral successes and solidifies India's formidable standing in international women's cricket.

Zimbabwe batters face disciplined bowling

Visitors struggled from the start after opting to bat first, managing only 102 for eight on a slow pitch. Mandhana had requested her team to "be more disciplined with the ball" during the toss, and the bowlers delivered perfectly. Zimbabwe batters faced 71 dot balls and ended the powerplay at a mere 20 for one. Kelis Ndhlovu fell for an 11-ball duck, while Beloved Biza was caught at extra cover shortly after.

Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano offered some resistance by scoring 34 off 32 balls, utilizing reverse sweeps effectively. Josephine Nkomo chipped in with 27 runs from 35 deliveries during the final overs. Niki Prasad delivered a spectacular debut, taking two wickets with her first two legitimate balls in international cricket.

Record opening stand seals victory

Chasing the target looked effortless as the Indian openers raced to 76 for zero by the end of the powerplay. Shafali Verma unleashed an aggressive attack, blasting 55 runs off just 24 balls. Her innings featured six boundaries and four sixes. Mandhana matched this energy, finishing with an unbeaten 47 off 25 deliveries. They scored 84 of their 96 combined runs entirely through boundaries. Mandhana highlighted her technical brilliance in the fifth over by hitting four consecutive boundaries off Nyasha Gwanzura. Following Verma's dismissal, Anushka Sharma added a single run before Mandhana wrapped up the chase with a pristine six over extra cover.
