Digital platform now includes state bus and tourist boat ticketing services.
The Government of Odisha has significantly enhanced its flagship digital platform, the Odisha Yatri app, with a major update aimed at transforming public transport and tourism. The Commerce & Transport Department announced the integration of two critical services: ticket booking for the state-run ‘Ama Bus’ network and a new ticketing system for boating services at the iconic Chilika Lake, beginning with the popular Satapada route. This strategic expansion marks a pivotal step in creating a unified digital ecosystem for mobility and travel across the state.
The new features are designed to offer unprecedented convenience to both residents and tourists. Users can now book and pay for their ‘Ama Bus’ tickets directly within the app, bringing greater transparency and accessibility to public transportation. For visitors to Chilika, the app eliminates the hassle of on-site ticket purchasing. Tourists can browse available boating packages, select a suitable date and time, and complete the payment digitally. Upon booking, a QR-coded ticket is generated in the app, which is then validated at the boating point where a vessel is assigned through the integrated system. This streamlined process is expected to improve efficiency and enhance the overall visitor experience at one of Odisha’s premier tourist destinations.
This initiative is a core component of the state's broader vision for a digitally empowered and interconnected Odisha. Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department, stated that the Odisha Yatri app is about more than just technology; it is about empowering citizens with the freedom to travel and explore the state with confidence. By bringing essential mobility and tourism services onto a single platform, the government aims to make journeys smarter, safer, and more inclusive for everyone. The initial rollout has been completed for Android users, with the iOS version expected to be available shortly, pending App Store approval. Officials have also confirmed that further user-friendly refinements will be integrated in the coming days to ensure a smooth and intuitive booking experience.
With these additions, the Odisha Yatri app is solidifying its position as a comprehensive, one-stop solution for travel needs in the state. The move reflects a clear commitment to leveraging technology to build a future-ready infrastructure that benefits both its citizens and the growing tourism sector.
