Odisha: Khurdha police arrest 3 in Jankia Jewellery shop loot, Seize gold worth crores

Bhubaneswar, September 2: Khurdha Police have arrested three members of a dacoit gang involved in the sensational daylight loot at Sai Sonu Alankar jewellery shop in Jankia. Stolen ornaments worth several crores have been recovered.

On August 24, around 2 PM, eight armed miscreants arrived on four motorcycles at the shop in Chhanagiri under Jankia police limits. Wearing helmets, they hurled bombs outside, threatened staff at gunpoint and with sharp weapons, and looted jewellery before fleeing. The gang made away with 11.5 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver ornaments, valued at over ₹11.55 crore, as per the complaint lodged by shop owner Arundhati Sahu.

During the investigation, police identified 10 suspects, of whom eight have been named. Acting on leads, police apprehended three accused, including a receiver of the stolen gold, and seized:

  • 900.65 gm gold
  • 2.36 kg silver
  • ₹9.45 lakh cash
  • One country-made gun with ammunition
  • One bhujali (sharp weapon)

The arrests and recovery were made under the supervision of Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS (DIG, Central Range, Cuttack), SP Vivekanand Sharma, IPS (Khordha), and Addl. SP Srinibas Mohanty, OPS-I, following raids at multiple locations.

Police said efforts are on to trace the remaining members of the gang.
