Berhampur, July 12: A 29-year-old woman from Berhampur passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today while undergoing treatment for critical burn injuries.

The woman had allegedly set herself on fire on Saturday after posting a video on social media leveling severe allegations of abuse against her father.

According to reports, the woman sustained life-threatening injuries after pouring petrol on herself and setting herself ablaze. She was initially rushed to a local hospital in Brahmapur before being transferred to a private facility in Bhubaneswar, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Prior to the suicide attempt, the woman recorded and shared a video online in which she accused her 57-year-old father of sexually abusing her over several years and forcing her into prostitution. The woman, who had been married for more than a year and was residing with her in-laws in the Nimakhandi area of Brahmapur, alleged that the prolonged trauma drove her to take the extreme step.

Following the circulation of the viral video, the Nimakhandi police registered a suo motu case and launched an immediate investigation. The accused father was subsequently arrested by the authorities.

However, the accused has denied all allegations, claiming that he has been falsely implicated in the case.

Police said that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
