Odisha Vigilance apprehends Bijepur SI for taking Rs 7k bribe

Bargarh, Aug 25: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday apprehended the Sub-Inspector of Bijepur police station in Odisha’s Bargarh district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.

The accused police official has been identified as Jagaa Bariha.

According to reports, Bariha allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a scrap dealer in exchange for allowing him to operate his business without interference and refraining from filing any cases against him.

When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the demanded amount, Bariha lowered the amount to Rs. 7,000. However, he also threatened the complainant with severe action unless the bribe of Rs. 7,000 was paid.

Left out with no other option, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities. Acting on it, Vigilance Officers laid a trap and caught Bariha red-handed while he was accepting the bribe of Rs. 7,000 from the complainant. 

The entire bribe money has been recovered from his possession and seized.

Following the apprehension, the Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Swain to investigate the Disproportionate Asset (DA) angle.

Further investigation into the matter was underway and more details are awaited.
