Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: In a move aimed at enhancing services for Odia people visiting various cities across India, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans on Wednesday to construct new Odisha Bhawans in Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Surat.
The initiative seeks to expand the state’s representation and provide better support in key urban centers.
According to sources from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the new Odisha Bhawans are part of a broader strategy to extend the state’s presence across the country. The Chief Minister has directed the administration to move forward with the construction in these cities, where large numbers of Odia people frequently travel.
The proposed buildings will be six-story structures (G+6) with a total area of 4,761 square meters, featuring 45 suites in various categories. In addition to the accommodation, each Bhawan will include a spacious conference hall to serve the needs of visitors and official functions.
During a high-level review meeting on the redevelopment of the Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi, CM Majhi emphasized the importance of incorporating Odisha’s rich cultural heritage into the design of the new buildings. He urged architects to showcase the state’s iconic stone carvings, Sambalpuri Ikat textiles, and traditional Odia culture and heritage in the architectural layout.
The revamped Odisha Bhawan in New Delhi will feature 45 modern suites to accommodate visitors, government officials, and dignitaries. Additionally, the Mumbai Odisha Bhawan will undergo an expansion to increase the number of available rooms.
The decision to establish Bhawans in Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Surat comes in response to the growing Odia diaspora in these regions. The new infrastructure will provide much-needed support, accommodation, and government access to Odia residents and travelers.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for Odisha, enhancing its cultural and administrative outreach beyond the state and fostering stronger connections with Odia communities across India.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Saswata Mishra, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department Sanjeev Mishra, Principal Secretary of the Works Department Sanjay Kumar Singh, and others, were present during the meeting.
