Odisha: Ten Andhra Fishermen Rescued From Puri Coast After Boat faces Technical Snag

Bhubaneswar, July 5: Ten fishermen from Andhra Pradesh were rescued after their fishing boat developed a technical snag and drifted off the Puri coast on Sunday.

The fishing vessel, registered as IND-AP-V5-MM-872, had departed from Kakinada Fishing Harbour for a routine fishing expedition when it reportedly suffered an engine failure in the open sea.

According to reports, the engine became inoperative and the boat's anchor also failed to function, leaving the vessel adrift nearly 2–3 kilometres off the Puri coast near a beachfront hotel.

After receiving information about the stranded boat, the Superintendent of Police directed immediate rescue operations. Police personnel from Baliapanda Police Station and Penthakata Marine Police coordinated the rescue and established contact with nearby fishing boats.

A fishing vessel from Visakhapatnam reached the stranded boat and safely rescued all ten fishermen.

The rescued fishermen, residents of Chintapalli village in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district, were reported to be unharmed and were later sent back to their native village.

Authorities said arrangements would be made to tow the disabled fishing vessel to a safe location.

Police credited the swift coordination between the marine police and local fishing boats for the successful rescue operation. No casualties or injuries were reported.
