Bhubaneswar, June 1: As many as three new active cases of Covid-19 were reported in Odisha on Sunday, taking the total number of active cases in the State to 12.
The updated numbers were confirmed by Public health Director Dr. Nilakantha Mishra.
He also responded to concerns about a reported Covid death, stating that the State’s Health and Family Welfare Department has not received any official confirmation of a Covid-related death so far.
Earlier yesterday, reports had emerged stating the death of an 80-year-old man due to Covid-19. The death was reported from Bhubaneswar, where a person who had recently tested positive for Covid-19 along with multiple co-morbidities succumbed to the illness.
Meanwhile, the active Covid-19 cases in India rose to 3,758 with 1,818 patients having recovered and been discharged.
According to Union Health Ministry data released on Saturday, Kerala topped the list with 1,336 cases and was followed by Maharashtra and Delhi.
Between Friday and Saturday, 685 new Covid cases and four deaths were reported, with one death each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
The number of active cases in key states is as follows: Kerala (1,336), Maharashtra (467), Delhi (375), Gujarat (265), Karnataka (234), West Bengal (205), Tamil Nadu (185), and Uttar Pradesh (117).
The national total of active Covid cases has increased significantly, rising from 257 on May 22 to 1,010 by May 26, and then to 3,395 by Saturday.
