Bhubaneswar, May 18: Odisha continues to face the brunt of an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring across various parts of the state.
Sambalpur experienced the hottest location on Saturday, registering a sweltering 40.6°C.
The information was shared by weather scientist Umasankar Das on his official handle on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Das, Hirakud recorded 39.1°C, closely followed by Jharsuguda at 38.8°C. The capital city, Bhubaneswar, wasn't far behind, logging 38°C.
Amid the rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory, urging residents to take precautions. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid direct exposure to the sun.
