
Bhubaneswar, September 16: In a significant development in the Puri-Baliharichandi gang rape case, the fourth accused, Siba Sahoo, was arrested by Puri Police from Andhra Pradesh. The accused was subsequently produced in the local court, police said.
A manhunt had been launched across various locations to apprehend the fourth suspect involved in the horrifying incident, which took place near a beach in Odisha's Puri-Brahmagiri.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when a 19-year-old woman, along with her boyfriend, were sitting near the Baliharichandi temple on Saturday. A group of local youths allegedly clicked photos and videos of the couple and demanded money in exchange for deleting the footage. When the couple refused to comply, two of the assailants reportedly raped the woman, while the others physically assaulted her boyfriend and tied him to a tree.
The survivor filed a complaint on Monday evening, after recovering from the trauma of the attack.
In this connection, Puri police had arrested the three local suspects, who allegedly deleted the videos before being apprehended.
