Odisha Police Launches e-Zero FIR System for Cyber Financial Fraud Cases

Bhubaneswar, July 9: In a major step towards strengthening the fight against cybercrime, the Odisha Police has introduced the e-Zero FIR system for speedy registration and investigation of cyber financial fraud cases. The new mechanism aims to ensure prompt action against cyber fraudsters and provide quicker justice to victims, Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania announced on Wednesday.

Under the new system, victims of cyber financial fraud must immediately report the incident by calling the National Cyber Helpline 1930. Once the complaint is lodged, an e-Zero FIR request will be generated automatically through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), enabling authorities to initiate the investigation without delay.

The facility will initially cover cyber financial fraud cases involving ₹10 lakh or more. The DGP said the system is expected to significantly reduce delays in FIR registration and investigation, while ensuring timely assistance to victims. He added that the mechanism would be further simplified and expanded in the coming days.

As per the new process, complaints registered through the 1930 helpline will be automatically forwarded to the Cyber Police Station under the Crime Branch. Following a preliminary verification, the Cyber Police Station will register a regular FIR and begin the investigation. If required, the case will subsequently be transferred to the police station having territorial jurisdiction for further investigation and legal proceedings.
