Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: In a major push to curb crime and maintain public order across Odisha, the State Police have made significant strides under Operation ‘Garuda’, a statewide enforcement drive launched on August 1.
Acting on the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, the operation has seen active participation from all district units, under the close supervision of Additional Director General (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar.
The second phase of the operation, conducted through August 16, has yielded substantial results, with thousands of arrests, seizures of illegal items, and enforcement of outstanding warrants.

Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs):
Executed: 3,643
Otherwise Disposed: 362
Excise Offences:
1,806 cases registered
Seized: 47,105.56 litres of illicit liquor, ₹3,400 in cash
Illegal Arms:
Seized: 63 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, 2 empty magazines
Recovered: ₹1,45,500 in cash, 1 car, 3 motorcycles
NDPS Act Violations:
57 cases registered
Seized: 3,030.35 kg of cannabis, 664 grams of brown sugar
Recovered: 9 cars, 12 motorcycles, ₹89,520 in cash
Gambling Cases:
70 cases filed
Seized: ₹6,28,725 in cash, 3 cars, 52 motorcycles, 47 mobile phones
Arrests Made: 406 individuals across various criminal categories
Drunken Driving:
163 cases registered
163 vehicles seized
District-wise highlights:
Ganjam District led the state in NBW enforcement with 383 warrants executed. Police also seized 11 firearms and 55 rounds of ammunition, arresting 30 individuals in arms-related cases.
Sambalpur District reported notable enforcement across multiple fronts:
Gambling: 10 cases, ₹31,760 seized, 3 motorcycles, 7 phones, 18 arrests
NDPS: 12 cases, 50.58 kg cannabis, 2,599 bottles of cough syrup, 13.1 strips of nitrazepam tablets, 20 pocket injections, 5 motorcycles, 5 phones, 24 arrests
Excise: 182 arrests, 1,612 litres of illicit liquor seized in 182 cases
Kandhamal District: Seized over 5 tonnes of explosives, arresting five individuals in the case.
