Bhubaneswar, May 27: Concerns over illegal infiltration into Odisha have intensified following recent remarks by Suvendu Adhikari regarding undocumented Bangladeshi nationals staying in West Bengal.
Addressing the issue on Tuesday, Adhikari warned that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh should voluntarily leave the state at the earliest. He stated that strict action would be taken against infiltrators staying illegally.
Following the statement, concerns have emerged in Odisha over the possibility of undocumented migrants attempting to enter the state through coastal and border districts. Security experts believe districts such as Kendrapara, Balasore and Jagatsinghpur could remain vulnerable routes for possible infiltration.
Experts have suggested that the Odisha government strengthen patrolling and surveillance mechanisms in sensitive areas to prevent any illegal entry into the state.
According to information presented in the Odisha Assembly, 77 Bangladeshi nationals have so far been identified in the state. A special task force has reportedly been formed to identify illegal infiltrators and initiate deportation procedures.
