Odisha: Naveen Patnaik discusses SIR, organisational issues with BJD leaders

Bhubaneswar, July 27: BJD president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday held discussions with senior party leaders at his residence - Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar - on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the State and organisational matters.

Senior party leaders Prasanna Acharya, Arun Sahu, Gautam Budhha Das, Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on organisational strengthening, preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections.

On July 22, Patnaik also held a crucial strategy meeting with the party's district presidents and executive presidents at Naveen Niwas and asked party leaders to remain vigilant to ensure that no eligible voter's name is deleted from the electoral rolls during the SIR drive. He also directed district units to sensitise booth-level agents and announced that he would personally review the progress of the exercise on July 28.

To bolster the party's organisational structure ahead of the rural polls, Patnaik also directed to complete the formation of district and block committees by August 15.

Notably, the draft electoral roll was published on July 5, 2026. Around 8.32 lakh deceased voters, 10.07 lakh shifted or permanently absent voters, and 1.58 lakh duplicate registrations have been excluded from the draft electoral roll in Odisha.

The final electoral roll for Odisha is scheduled to be published on September 6, following a thorough verification of all claims and objections.
