Bhubaneswar/Patna, July 19: In a tragic incident, a first-year postgraduate student pursuing his MD at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna was found dead in his hostel room on Saturday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Raghvendra Sahu, a native of Odisha.
According to the police, Sahu had not been seen since the morning, and fellow hostel residents grew concerned when he failed to respond to repeated knocks on his door. The incident took place in Hostel Number 5, where Sahu was residing.
"At around 1:00 PM, we received a distress call reporting that one of the hostel rooms had remained locked from the inside since morning, and the occupant was unresponsive," said Sushil Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Phulwarisharif-1). "A police team rushed to the spot along with administrative officials from AIIMS-Patna. When attempts to make contact failed, the authorities were compelled to open the door forcefully."
Upon breaking into the room, police and institute officials found Sahu lying unconscious on his bed. He was immediately shifted to the emergency ward of the institute’s hospital. However, attending doctors declared him brought dead.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death. Preliminary findings suggest there were no immediate signs of foul play, though the room was reportedly locked from the inside. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Sahu’s family, hailing from Odisha, has been informed and is en route to Patna. Meanwhile, AIIMS-Patna officials have extended their condolences to the bereaved family and are cooperating fully with the police in the ongoing probe.
