Jagatsinghpur, June 22: Mystery shrouded over the death of a married woman after her body was found hanging from a tree with her own saree wrapped around her neck in Naugaon area of Odisha Jagatsinghpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Babita Sahu and the incident has been reported from Chakuli village in Rohia Panchayat under Naugaon police limits in the district.
As per reports, locals spotted Babita’s body hanging from a tree near an old brick kiln in Chakuli village and alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, Naugaon police arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Though the exact reason behind Babita’s death is yet to be ascertained, her family members alleged that Babita was a victim of prolonged domestic abuse. According to her family members, Babita had frequently complained about physical assault by her husband, who reportedly pressured her for more dowry and often consumed alcohol. The situation worsened over the past two years, with daily violence becoming a regular occurrence.
They alleged that her husband and in-laws killed her for dowry.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
