Odisha: Man sentenced to 10 years' jail in kidnapping and rape case of minor in Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar, August 8: Nabarangpur Special POCSO Court sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping and raping a minor girl, along with a fine of Rs 20,000.

Additional District Sessions Judge and Special POCSO Court Judge sentenced the convict, Dushmanta of Majursahi under Koksera police station in Kalahandi district, to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

Bag had allegedly kidnapped the minor girl from the Chandahandi police station area in June 2013, and kept her at his house for about 20 days. During this period, he allegedly threatened the girl and raped her against her will.

After getting a complaint from the victim’s family, Chandahandi police had lodged the case and arrested the accused.

After completing the investigation, police submitted the charge sheet in the case. The court, after examining the evidence, witnesses and other materials on record, found him guilty.

The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to make arrangement for payment of Rs 7 lakh as compensation by the State Government for the victim’s rehabilitation and better future.
