
Bhubaneswar, September 25: In a significant legal ruling, a special POCSO court in Jajpur has sentenced Kalia @ Arakhita Parida (52) to life imprisonment in connection with the rape of an 8-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 2 lakh on the convicted individual.
The case was registered at the Bari Ramachandrapur Police Station in Jajpur district on October 24, 2024, following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
During the investigation, the principal accused was arrested along with 10 other individuals who were allegedly involved in concealing the crime.
A charge sheet was filed under Sections 65(2)/351(3) BNS in conjunction with Section 6 of the POCSO Act against the main accused, while the others were charged under Section 249/61(2)/3(5) BNS.
The trial began on January 4, 2025, and the judgment was delivered on September 19, 2025. In addition to the life sentence, the court has directed that Rs. 5 lakh be provided as compensation to the victim.
