Odisha introduces +2 Science textbooks in Odia medium for first time

Bhubaneswar, May 29: Language will no longer be a barrier to science education in Odisha. Students can now pursue dreams of becoming doctors and engineers by studying science in their mother tongue, Odia.

In a landmark move, +2 Science textbooks will be made available completely in Odia from the current academic year. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly two lakh students across the state, especially those from rural backgrounds.

The announcement was made by the Institute of Odia Studies and Research. According to the institute, the Odisha government has printed Odia-medium textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics, which will be distributed in both government and private colleges.

Earlier, science students were largely compelled to study through the English medium, creating difficulties for many learners from Odia-medium schools. The new initiative aims to make science education more accessible and easier to understand for students studying in their native language.

Institute Secretary Subrata Kumar Prusti stated that studying science in the mother tongue will improve conceptual understanding among students and help them perform better in national-level competitive examinations such as Joint Entrance Examination and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.

The textbooks have been prepared in accordance with the syllabus of the Council of Higher Secondary Education Odisha.
