
Bhubaneswar, September 17: In a significant operation, the Special Crime Unit of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled an illegal arms syndicate, arresting three individuals and confiscating a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition.
The accused have been identified as Mahesh Kumar Saha alias Tipu from Lohardaga village in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district, Md. Sakabat from Deulatangi village, and Firoz Alli Khan from Gayabandha village in Khordha district.
Following a tip-off, the Special Crime Unit initiated an operation targeting the illicit arms trade in Bhubaneswar. The suspects were intercepted near Hatiasuni Square, under Maitree Vihar Police Station, while attempting to complete an illegal arms transaction.
A case has been filed under Sections 109(1)/3(5) of the BNS, in conjunction with Sections 25(1)(a), 25(1B), 26, 28, and 29 of the Arms Act, 1959.
The following items were seized during the operation: 8 semi-automatic pistols, 34 live ammunition rounds, 10 magazines, 4 mobile phones, one four-wheeled vehicle and Rs 2,400 in cash
Tipu was arrested in Jharkhand, while the other two suspects were caught in Khordha. All three are currently in police custody and are undergoing interrogation to uncover further details about their arms supply network.
A police spokesperson stated, “Our team remains committed to dismantling such criminal networks to ensure the safety of the public.”
