Odisha heatwave: Schools to remain shut in Angul, Khordha, Deogarh from April 20

Bhubaneswar, April 19: Amid severe heatwave conditions sweeping across Odisha, the District Collectors of Angul, Khordha, and Deogarh have ordered the temporary closure of all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres, starting tomorrow.

As per official notifications, educational institutions in Khordha and Deogarh will remain shut from April 20 to April 23. In Angul district, the closure will be in effect from April 20 to April 22.

Authorities have instructed education officials to enforce the directive immediately, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and staff during the extreme heat.

In cases where examinations are scheduled during this period, they are to be conducted only in the morning to help avoid exposure to peak afternoon temperatures.

Notably, several other districts have already declared closure of schools due to rising temperature in the state.

The move comes as a precautionary response to the ongoing heatwave, with temperatures rising sharply across the state and warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department.
