Bhubaneswar, October 1:The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department of the Odisha government observed the state-level International Day of Older Persons 2026 in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
The programme brought together senior citizens, officials and experts to highlight the dignity, health and financial security of the elderly.
The celebrations began at Indira Gandhi Park with a yoga and wellness session led by Art of Living faculties Harapriya Mishra and Dr Pritish Kumar Mishra.
At the main event at the State Convention Centre, Lok Seva Bhavan, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr Brunda D, Director Parul Patwari and Additional Secretary Deepak Routrai were present.
Chief Guest and Ekamra MLA Babu Singh stressed the need to honour senior citizens for their contributions to families and society and called for strengthening bonds between grandparents and grandchildren.
Chartered Accountant and financial literacy expert Arun Kumar Sabat shared guidance on tax planning, reverse mortgages, estate planning and safe investment options for senior citizens.
The programme concluded with a cultural performance by the Sweta Padma Cultural Group featuring noted singers and traditional and popular songs.
