Bhubaneswar, October 27: In response to Cyclone Montha approaching the eastern coast, the Odisha government has announced a two-day holiday (October 28 and 29) for all schools, colleges, and educational institutions in eight districts. These districts include Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.
Authorities have urged both students and parents to stay indoors during the heavy rainfall and advised against travel unless absolutely necessary, especially if the weather clears.
The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has instructed district collectors to implement safety protocols, which include suspending physical classes, conducting structural safety inspections of school buildings, and repurposing educational facilities as temporary shelters if required.
In addition, the Odisha Disaster Response Force (ODRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units, and local authorities have been placed on high alert. Fishermen have been advised not to venture out to sea, and coastal residents in vulnerable areas are being moved to cyclone shelters.
To ensure minimal disruption, the state's power and telecommunication departments have been directed to maintain backup systems and emergency services.
This precautionary step aims to safeguard students, educators, and staff as Odisha braces for heavy rains and strong winds brought on by the cyclone.
