Bhubaneswar, June 23: Expressing concern over low participation in government-backed welfare programmes, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday initiated a special enrollment drive for officials and staff of the Raj Bhavan.
Speaking at an awareness programme on social security schemes held at the Raj Bhavan premises, the Governor highlighted the importance of these initiatives, many of which have been launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He emphasized that while some schemes target vulnerable and marginalised groups, others are open to the general population to provide financial protection and support.
“Unfortunately, in Odisha, a significant number of eligible citizens are not taking advantage of these benefits due to lack of awareness,” the Governor said. He noted that even among educated and well-informed sections of society, enrollment remains low.
To lead by example, Governor Kambhampati announced that all Raj Bhavan officials and staff would be enrolled in the schemes for which they are eligible. “This initiative aims to set a precedent and encourage wider public participation across the state,” he added.
The Governor highlighted several flagship programmes such as the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and the Atal Pension Yojana. He urged citizens to take advantage of these schemes to secure their financial futures.
He also called for increased awareness efforts, particularly in colleges and universities, and urged public institutions to actively promote these welfare programmes.
