Cuttack, June 13: To mark the completion of one year in office, the Odisha government organized a State-level Women Empowerment Convention at the historic Baliyatra Ground in Cuttack, led by the Department of Women and Child Development.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing the gathering, emphasized that honoring women is the first lesson in political training and reiterated the government’s commitment to make Odisha’s women the state’s greatest strength. He highlighted the Subhadra Yojana as the state’s largest women welfare initiative, aimed at empowering women, especially in remote tribal areas, through data-driven outreach and financial support.
Majhi also celebrated Odisha’s leading role in implementing PM Modi’s “Lakhpati Didi” scheme, with over 16 lakh women achieving economic self-reliance. This year alone, SHGs in the state received ₹3,695 crore in business opportunities, a record in Odisha’s history. Over ₹300 crore in loans have been repaid, showing the success of the initiative.
The CM also cited the Mukhyamantri Sampurna Pushti Yojana (MSPY) and the ₹89,861 crore budget allocations for women as proof of Odisha’s firm stance on women's welfare, aspiring to make the state a national model for empowerment.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida called for a united commitment toward building a developed, inclusive, and progressive Odisha, pledging to create one Lakhpati Didi per household and one Crorepati Didi per panchayat.
A coffee table book showcasing Odisha’s grassroots nutrition campaign was unveiled, and several women achievers were felicitated.
