Bhubaneswar, July 19: The 15-year-old girl who was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in Balanga of Puri district, remains in critical condition at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. Doctors have confirmed that she has sustained 70-75% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burns.
According to AIIMS sources, the victim was brought to the emergency department on Saturday in a severely critical state. She has since been shifted to the hospital’s Burn Centre for specialized care.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, stated that the girl is both mentally and physically traumatized.
“Her condition is critical. We are focused on stabilizing her blood pressure and maintaining respiratory support. She is currently on oxygen,” Dr. Biswas said, adding that it will take 48 to 72 hours to assess the full outcome of her treatment.
The victim has suffered second and third-degree burns and is undergoing acute skin treatment. Although she is able to speak, she is deeply traumatized. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, transferring her to another facility via airlift is not an option at this time.
In the meantime, police have recorded her statement in the presence of a magistrate. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning family members and those who first came to her aid. The probe into the horrifying attack is ongoing.
