Kandhamal, Aug 25: Former Baliguda MLA and BJP leader Karendra Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar late last night.
Majhi was elected as the MLA from Baliguda constituency twice, securing victories in the 2004 and 2009 elections.
Notably, Karendra Majhi was a prominent leader from the Kutia Kondh community and also the first postgraduate from his community.
In addition to his political career, he was a writer and authored three books in the Kui language. His passing has left the Kandhamal district in shock, where he was a well-known and influential figure.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, BJP state president Manmohan Samal, and several other leaders paid their tributes to the departed soul at the hospital.
Majhi’s mortal remains will be brought to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday morning, where he will be accorded a state sendoff. All MLAs will pay their respects by offering floral tributes.
Afterward, his body will be taken to the BJP state office, where leaders and dignitaries will offer their final respects. CM Majhi is also scheduled to visit the BJP office to pay homage.
