Bhubaneswar, July 4: The flood situation in Odisha remains under control, according to the state's Water Resources Department, with water levels of several rivers now receding.

Sagar Mohanty, Engineer-in-Chief (Procurement), on Thursday said that rivers such as the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka are flowing below danger levels.

“The water that had entered some localities is now receding as the river levels continue to fall,” he added.

Despite improving flood conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for several districts. An orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh, while a yellow alert is in place for Nuapada, Balangir, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur.

IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty reported that the state has received 29% more rainfall than average so far.

“In the past 24 hours alone, Odisha saw widespread rain, with five locations experiencing very heavy rainfall and seven others receiving heavy rain. Total rainfall across the state has reached 305.8 mm,” she said.

She also noted that a cyclonic circulation over North Odisha and adjoining West Bengal is likely to bring continued rainfall over the next 24 hours, especially in districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur.
