Odisha Flood: Jajpur Schools to Remain Closed on August 18 as Situation Remains Grim

Bhubaneswar, August 17: In view of the worsening flood situation, waterlogging in several parts of Jajpur district and the possibility of heavy rainfall, the District Education Office has ordered the suspension of classes in all schools across the district on Tuesday, August 18.

According to an order issued by the District Education Officer on Monday, classes will remain suspended for one day in all government, government-aided and private schools. The directive covers elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools, along with Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and Odisha Model Adarsha Vidyalayas (OMAVs).

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure amid the ongoing flood situation and forecasts of further heavy rainfall in the district.

However, the Education Department clarified that school premises will remain open for use in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations, if required. In the event of any flood-related emergency, schools may be utilised as centres for relief and rescue efforts and other emergency response measures.
