Odisha Excise Dept seizes illicit liquor, narcotics worth ₹1.31 crore in a single day

Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: As part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal liquor and narcotics, the Odisha Excise Department carried out extensive enforcement operations on September 7, registering 168 cases across the state, including three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The drive led to the arrest of 30 individuals, while 65 others were released under the provisions of Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The enforcement squads seized 11,399 litres of ID liquor along with 112,360 litres of fermented wash and 8,460 litres of gur wash, indicating large-scale destruction of illicit brewing materials. In addition, 203 litres of Out Still liquor, 50 litres of C.S. liquor and 46 bulk litres of beer were seized. Contraband substances recovered included 21 kilograms of Ganja, 385 grams of heroin (brown sugar).

Enforcement teams also seized 15 vehicles that were being used for transportation of illicit liquor and contraband. The total value of the seized articles on the day stood at ₹1.31 crore. With this, the cumulative value of seizures from 1st September till date has reached ₹7.91 crore.
