Bhubaneswar, September 29: Durga Puja preparations in the Central Range are progressing at full throttle. Dr. Satyajit Naik, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for Central Range, Cuttack, convened a review meeting with Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to assess and streamline security measures for the upcoming festival in the seven districts, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, and Khordha

Dr. Naik underscored the importance of ensuring public safety during the festivities. The focus of the meeting was on strengthening security arrangements, which include the deployment of police personnel, the regulation of processions, and restrictions on police leave during the celebrations.

"Preventing untoward incidents is our highest priority," Dr. Naik stated. "We will closely monitor processions, remove any obstacles, and ensure strict action against known anti-social elements."

The DIG highlighted the need for stringent regulations during immersion processions, with reference to Section 30 of the Police Act and the Odisha Fireworks and Loudspeaker (Regulation) Act.

Security at Puja pandals was another area of concern. Dr. Naik emphasized round-the-clock police presence, enhanced patrolling, and strict traffic management to ensure the smooth movement of people. He also outlined the need for adequate lighting, CCTV surveillance, and effective barricading near the pandals.

Safety measures were a critical part of the discussion. The DIG directed the immediate availability of fire brigade services, ambulances, and first aid stations to handle any emergencies.

In a bid to foster community cooperation, Dr. Naik also urged senior police officers to engage with Puja organizers and sensitize them on safety protocols and security guidelines.

The meeting's goal was clear: to ensure a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable Durga Puja celebration, maintaining law and order while safeguarding public welfare.
