Keonjhar, Oct 10: In a major breakthrough, Keonjhar Town Police in Odisha foiled a dacoity attempt late last night and arrested nine dreaded interstate criminals in this connection.
The cops carried out the operation late last night during which they also seized of five guns, several sharp weapons, 25 live bullets, and a four-wheeler used by the accused.
According to police sources, the gang—known as the “Mahakal Group”—had been involved in multiple cases of murder, dacoity, and theft. The group had created an atmosphere of fear in the region by posting videos of themselves wielding guns and throwing money during birthday celebrations on social media platforms.
Acting on a tip-off, Keonjhar Town Police raided a house in Narayanpur, where the gang was allegedly meeting to plan a robbery and nabbed all the nine members.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were wanted in at least 37 criminal cases in Keonjhar and nearby areas. Police officials also stated that the gang accepted contracts for targeted killings in exchange for money.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
