Cuttack/Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: Amid growing concerns over adulterated chhena and paneer, food safety authorities have intensified raids across Odisha. After large quantities of adulterated dairy products were seized in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, inspections have now been expanded to other districts as well.
As part of the crackdown, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Food Safety Department conducted raids at several hotels, shops and paneer manufacturing units. The inspections particularly focused on establishments involved in the production and sale of paneer and other dairy products.
According to officials, the enforcement teams had, by Friday evening, seized and destroyed around 400 kg of adulterated paneer, chhena, khua, rabri and expired milk packets during the raids.
During an inspection at Girija Restaurant, officials reportedly found around 10 kg of stale food and adulterated paneer. The seized items were destroyed on the spot, while the establishment was reportedly fined ₹12,000 for violating food safety norms.
Officials said inspections and testing of dairy products would continue as part of efforts to prevent the sale of unsafe and adulterated food items to consumers across the state.
