
Nuapada, Aug 26: In a tragic incident, a young couple died of suffocation after a fire broke out in their home in Khariar block of Odisha’s Nuapada district last evening.
The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Patel (30) and his wife Rima Patel (25) and the incident has been reported from Tukla village.
According to reports, the couple lived with Rajesh’s parents and their six-month-old son. The family operated a food stall near the Tukla bus stand and also stored and sold petrol.
On the fateful day, a fire reportedly broke out while the couple was packing cinnamon nuts allegedly sparked by over 20 litres of petrol stored inside the house. The blaze spread rapidly, trapping the couple inside.
In a desperate bid to save their child, the couple managed to throw their infant son out of a window before succumbing to the smoke. The baby and Rajesh’s parents escaped unharmed.
Locals quickly rushed them to the Khariar Community Health Centre (CHC) in a private vehicle, where the doctors declared them brought dead.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and seized the bodies. Subsequently, they were sent for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
