Bhubaneswar, September 7: Ahead of Panchayat Polls, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee has formed a new team of senior and younger leaders to strengthen the party’s organisational base in the state, a party leader said.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has constituted a 29-member Political Affairs Committee headed by Lalji Desai, the party’s Odisha in-charge.
The committee includes several senior Congress leaders from the state, including Bhakta Charan Das, Ramachandra Kadam, former chief minister Giridhar Gamang, Niranjan Pattnaik, Jaydev Jena, Sarat Pattanayak, Prasad Harichandan, MP Saptagiri Shankar Ulaka, Rama Chandra Khuntia, Narasingha Mishra and former Union minister Srikant Jena.
The heads of the party’s various organisational wings, including the student, youth and women’s wings, as well as the Seva Dal and AICC secretaries, have been made ex-officio members of the committee.
The move is aimed at bringing together experienced leaders and younger functionaries to revive and expand the Congress’s grassroots presence across Odisha ahead of the crucial local body elections next year.
