Bhubaneswar, July 21: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at the Raj Bhawan on Sunday, amid the buz over a possible expansion of the Odisha Cabinet.
According to an official post by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the meeting was described as a “courtesy visit.”
However, the Governor informed that they discussed the development roadmap and ways to strengthen governance and public welfare.
"Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, called on me today at Raj Bhavan. We had a cordial discussion on Odisha’s development roadmap and ways to strengthen governance and public welfare," the Governor wrote on X.
The meeting comes days after BJP’s Odisha unit president, Manmohan Samal, indicated that a Cabinet expansion could be on the horizon.
Following the BJP’s victory in the 2024 Odisha Assembly elections, CM Majhi had constituted a 16-member Council of Ministers, including two Deputy Chief Ministers, eight Cabinet Ministers, and six Ministers of State with independent charge. Several ministers were assigned multiple portfolios, while the Chief Minister retained key departments such as General Administration, Home, Finance, Water Resources, and Information & Public Relations (I&PR).
With the BJP-led government completing a year in office, sources suggest there is room to induct at least five additional ministers.
