Bhubaneswar, April 26: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid heartfelt tributes to Krushna Chandra Gajapati Maharaja on his birth 134 anniversary, recalling the pivotal role he played in the creation of the separate Odisha province and his significant contributions as a visionary leader and statesman.
The tribute ceremony took place at the Odisha Legislative Assembly, where CM Majhi, along with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Babu Singh, and several other dignitaries, offered floral tributes to the legendary figure.
Regarded as the architect of Naba Utkal and one of the most influential leaders in the unification of the Odia-speaking regions, Krushna Chandra Gajapati was born on April 26, 1892, into the royal family of Paralakhemundi in Ganjam district. He was widely respected for his literary passion, exceptional administrative skills, and unwavering commitment to public service.
A staunch advocate for a separate Odisha state, Gajapati played a key role in the formation of the Odisha province for Odia-speaking people during the pre-Independence period. His leadership, political vision, and dedication to the cause of Odia identity earned him immense respect as a patriot, educationist, efficient administrator, and statesman.
Krushna Chandra Gajapati Maharaja passed away on May 25, 1974, at the age of 82 in Paralakhemundi. His legacy continues to serve as a foundation for Odisha's identity and the movement for its statehood.
