Bhubaneswar, May 1: Marking International Labour Day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday launched the ‘Odisha Sramik Sathi’ app, aimed at streamlining access to welfare schemes and services for workers across the state. He also announced a ₹100 hike in the average daily minimum wage, enhancing the livelihood security of labourers.
In a significant step toward labour welfare, the Chief Minister inaugurated multi-purpose Labour Waiting Centers at Dumduma and Kalpana Chhak in Bhubaneswar. These centers provide essential amenities including shelter, drinking water, sanitation facilities, and park spaces. Plans are underway to replicate these facilities in other major cities such as Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, and Berhampur.
Furthering his commitment to workers’ welfare, Majhi distributed benefits under the Construction Workers Welfare Scheme. The death assistance amount has been increased from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh for natural deaths and from ₹4 lakh to ₹6 lakh for accidental deaths. So far, over 47 lakh workers are registered under the scheme, with total disbursements exceeding ₹3,951 crore.
The Chief Minister also announced the formation of a task force and special action plan for migrant workers, alongside the continuation of digital labour services through the Parisram Portal.
Additionally, he introduced the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, a new initiative to support the marriage of girls from economically weaker sections.
