Odisha CM Majhi Approves 25% Bonus for Kendu Leaf Pluckers, 5% Incentive for Binders; ₹74.78 Crore Allocated

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday approved a package of welfare measures for lakhs of Kendu leaf Pluckers, binders, and seasonal staff across the state, including bonuses, incentives, and a revision in procurement prices.

​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, July 13:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday approved a package of welfare measures for lakhs of Kendu leaf Pluckers, binders, and seasonal staff across the state, including bonuses, incentives, and a revision in procurement prices.

Under the Chief Minister's decision, the procurement price of Kendu leaves in processed areas has been increased. The price of each Keri (a bundle of 20 Kendu leaves) has been raised by 10 paise, while the price of each Phal (a bundle of 40 Kendu leaves) has been increased by 20 paise. The state government will spend ₹10.78 crore to implement the revised procurement rates.

To further support workers engaged in the Kendu leaf trade, the government has approved a 25% bonus for Kendu leaf Pluckers. In addition, binders and seasonal staff will receive a 5% incentive. These bonus and incentive payments will involve an expenditure of ₹64 crore.

Overall, the Odisha Government will spend ₹74.78 crore on these welfare initiatives, aimed at improving the livelihoods of Kendu leaf collectors and associated workers while strengthening support for the state's Kendu leaf sector.
