Indian archers secure historic compound mixed team gold medals
Indian para archers Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar secured gold in the compound mixed team event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya. This victory marks India's first archery top podium finish of the current edition.
Sheetal and Toman displayed remarkable consistency in the final match, defeating Indonesian opponents Teodora Audi Ayudia Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang with a final score of 151-148. They took an early 38-37 lead and extended it to 77-73 by the second end. Maintaining their momentum, the Indian duo scored 38 points in the final end to seal their victory. Earlier in the day, the pair survived a tense semi-final against Chinese Taipei’s Yun-hsien Lee and Jyun-kai Yang. Despite holding a 112-103 advantage, a missed shot by Toman created intense pressure. Recovering brilliantly, they hit three consecutive shots in the 10-ring to edge out their opponents 142-141. Such high-stakes archery events highlight the intense precision required from global para-athletes under immense pressure.
