Odisha CM announces Rs 1000 crore flood package

Bhubaneswar, August 18: A day after conducting survey in flood-hit Jajpur and Bhadrak districts, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a package of Rs 1,000 crore for the flood-affected people in the State.

The Chief Minister said that compensation of Rs 8,500 per hectare will be provided to small and marginal farmers for crop/horticulture loss in non-irrigated areas while Rs 17,000 assistance will be provided per hectare in irrigated areas. Assistance for damage of perennial crops per hectare has been fixed at Rs 25,000.

To support the affected people, the CM said, additional funds would be provided if required.

The Chief Minister on Monday visited flood-ravaged areas in the worst-hit Bhadrak and Jajpur districts to take stock of the situation on the ground. More than 7.85 lakh people have been affected in the flood as the situation continued to remain grim in these two districts as Baitarani and Brahmani rivers have posed a serious threat in several areas of the districts.

Majhi went to Kasapa and Tarpada gram panchayats in Dasarathpur block of Jajpur district and interacted with residents of Ramchandrapur, Balda and Dobhabil villages.

He also travelled by boat to the severely flooded Ishwarpur village under Shyamsundarpur panchayat of Tihidi block in Bhadrak district and reviewed the situation.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and State BJP president Manmohan Samal accompanied the CM while he visited flood-affected areas of Bhadrak district.

The Chief Minister, on August 4, also announced an initial package of Rs 110 crore for the flood-affected people in the state, based on preliminary damage reports received from the district Collectors.
