Odisha CM announces Ayurveda College at Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, September 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled plans to establish a new Ayurveda college in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 85 crore, aims to boost the state's healthcare infrastructure. In addition, the state will see the establishment of eight new ‘Panchakarma’ centers this year, enhancing access to traditional Ayurvedic therapies.

Speaking at a state-level National Ayurveda Day event, Majhi emphasized the collaborative efforts of both the state and central governments in making this initiative possible. "A new Ayurvedic college will be set up at Rairangpur with an investment of Rs 85 crore, a step forward in strengthening our healthcare system," he said.

In line with these developments, Majhi highlighted the expansion of Panchakarma services, a key feature of Ayurvedic health treatments that focus on detoxification and rejuvenation. Currently, a Panchakarma unit operates at the Kendrapara district headquarters hospital, with two more being constructed at the Bargarh and Keonjhar district hospitals. Furthermore, eight additional Panchakarma centers are set to be established in various districts across the state.

Odisha already boasts three government Ayurvedic colleges, four government homeopathic colleges, and multiple Ayurvedic and homeopathic hospitals, where the next generation of healthcare professionals is being trained. "These institutions are not only preparing doctors but also treating patients from both within the state and beyond," Majhi added.

With 1,011 AYUSH dispensaries operating statewide—including 620 Ayurvedic, 562 homeopathic, and nine Unani dispensaries—Odisha continues to expand its healthcare reach, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Under the National AYUSH Mission, three integrated AYUSH hospitals are under construction in Dhenkanal, Berhampur, and Balasore. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling reiterated the state's commitment to improving access to Ayurvedic care, stating that over 2.3 crore patients have already benefited from Ayurveda treatment this year.

This initiative aligns with the state government’s ongoing efforts to integrate Ayurveda more deeply into the healthcare system, ensuring its availability at both rural and urban levels.
