
Bhubaneswar, Sept 27: Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), R.S. Gopalan, urged District Collectors and District Election Officers (DEOs) to ensure meticulous planning and timely execution of activities related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the 2026 Electoral Rolls. Speaking at a virtual review meeting, Gopalan stressed that the process must be carried out in strict adherence to the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to maintain transparency and credibility.
The review meeting assessed the current progress of preparations at the field level and the steps taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the revision process. Gopalan highlighted the importance of officers being proactive and offering full support to Booth Level Officers (BLOs), both during the revision process and in routine electoral work. He emphasized the need for timely compliance with ECI directives and advised the officers to anticipate potential challenges and prepare accordingly.
During the meeting, discussions focused on several key areas, including the comparison of electoral rolls from 2002 and 2025, the disposal of applications received through Forms 6, 7, and 8 by the September 25 deadline, and the readiness for printing and distributing enumeration forms to BLOs immediately after the schedule is announced. The review also covered efforts to fill vacant election-related posts, logistical arrangements, and manpower support for uploading enumeration forms at centralized locations.
Officials also reviewed preparations for press conferences and meetings with political parties on the day of the SIR declaration, as well as plans for conducting a second round of training for BLOs and other election functionaries.
Reiterating the importance of transparency and accuracy, CEO Gopalan emphasized that the success of the Special Intensive Revision would play a pivotal role in ensuring the credibility of Odisha’s electoral process. He stressed that the efficiency and coordination of officials at all levels will be key to the exercise's success.
