Bhubaneswar, July 5: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has strengthened its grievance redressal and monitoring mechanism through the 1929 City Call Center integrated with the Integrated Command & Control Center (ICCC) to ensure a waterlogging-free Bhubaneswar during the monsoon and the ongoing downpour triggered due to the low pressure system over Bay of Bengal.
Besides, the civic body has also deployed manpower teams and mechanized jetting-cum-suction machines at various locations, for stormwater line cleaning and water pumping machines for rapid rainwater evacuation, ensuring efficient drainage, public convenience, and smooth traffic movement across Bhubaneswar.
According to the civic body, citizens can now report any waterlogging, blocked drains, or overflowing storm water drains 24x7 by dialing 1929. The complaint will be tracked in real-time from the ICCC at Bhubaneswar.
“In view of the approaching monsoon and to ensure a waterlogging-free Bhubaneswar, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has strengthened its grievance redressal and monitoring mechanism through the 1929 City Call Center integrated with the Integrated Command & Control Center – ICCC,” said BMC.
Heavy rain triggered by a low-pressure system continued to batter Odisha, disrupting normal life with waterlogging and communication snags in several areas with Bhubaneswar recording 119.4 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 AM today.
BMC has also deployed Rapid Action Teams (RATs) to clear waterlogged areas, restore normalcy, and minimise public inconvenience in the smart city.
Yesterday, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das visited several areas in the city to take stock of the waterlogging problems and directed officials to take proactive measures to tackle the situation arising out of heavy rainfall.
