Bhubaneswar, June 5: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Muzibulla Khan, popularly known as Muna Khan, has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that resulted in the loss of 11 lives and left over 30 injured.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Khan said, "The tragedy in Bengaluru is deeply unfortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Such public events require strict safety measures. I demand an inquiry into the lapses that led to the stampede and accountability for those responsible."

He further emphasized the need for structured crowd control mechanisms, stating, "This incident should serve as a lesson. There must be clear guidelines to manage large gatherings to prevent such mishaps in the future."

The stampede occurred outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where nearly three lakh people had assembled to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory. The overwhelming crowd led to chaos and eventually a deadly stampede.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, while addressing the media earlier, became emotional as he spoke of the tragedy. "I don’t want to engage in petty politics. The BJP and JDS often politicize such incidents, but we are not pointing fingers. This incident has deeply hurt us and affected Karnataka’s image," he said.

He added, "We must draw administrative lessons from this. Let the opposition do politics if they must. But the grief of seeing young children suffer is unimaginable."

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and issued a notice to the state government. It has sought a detailed status report on the tragedy and the steps taken in response.
