Odisha ASI arrested for accepting ₹15,000 bribe in land dispute case

Bhubaneswar, June 19: In a significant development, the Odisha Vigilance team has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pravat Kumar Pradhan of Chandanpur Police Station in Puri for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.

 

The accused officer was handling an investigation related to a land dispute case.

 

According to the Vigilance, the complainant approached the authorities after ASI Pradhan reportedly asked for a bribe in exchange for assistance in the case involving the complainant and his brother. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance set up a trap and apprehended the ASI while he was accepting the bribe money.

 

The entire bribe amount of ₹15,000 has been recovered from Pradhan's possession and seized. Further searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused, and an investigation is ongoing.

 

A formal case has been filed against ASI Pradhan under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station. The authorities have vowed to take strict action in the case.
