Odisha: ASHA worker brutally hacked to death by brother-in-law in Ganjam

Berhampur, June 5: In a gruesome incident, an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker was brutally hacked to death by her brother-in-law reportedly over a land dispute in Jagannathprasad area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Vijayalakshmi Tripathi and the incident has been reported from Chadiapalli village in Jagannathprasad.

As per reports, a land dispute had been ongoing between Vijayalakshmi and her brother-in-law’s family for which the two sides had been in conflict for the past few years.

As usual, a quarrel ensued between the duo over the issue during which, the accused brother-in-law reportedly lost his temper and attacked her with an axe. As a result, Vijayalakshmi sustained grave injuries and died on the spot.

Thereafter, the accused fled from the spot.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the body before sending it for post-mortem.

A probe has been launched into the matter to determine the facts related to this tragic incident and efforts are on nab the culprit, said the police.
