Bhubaneswar, May 14: A 17-year-old lion named Akash died of age-related ailments at Nandankanan Zoological Park today.

Under treatment for the past few days, he was kept in a special enclosure and fed eggs and chicken meatballs, but he gradually lost his appetite.

Akash was brought from Bannerghatta Zoo in 2014 along with three other lions.

With his death, the zoo now has 22 lions, including 6 hybrids. Earlier this year, lioness Rewa also died after childbirth complications.
